i have two desktops in the house.(1 for the kids room).
got the internet setup on it...using a wireless router.
ive got the NTL broadband, but its slowed right down, since i put in the router...ran speed tests on both of them, and it shows on average 5 M/bs.(i presume this is good)
pages take a while to upload, while surfing the net.
is it normal to slow up like that? is it a router problem? ran anti virus scan+malware scan, and all clean.
    any help would be appreciated:)

Gis more info mate - when you say you are using a wireless router are you cabled into the back of them or have you a wireless card (or USB stick) in the desktops?

When you say you've 'got' the NTL b'band do you mean you have switched from someone else, it was fast and now its slow?

When you have only the kids desktop connected, how is performance?

When you only have your desktop connected how is performance?

Roughly how far is the line to the router?

Are you getting a solid DSL light on the router?

Obvious initial suggestion is to reboot the router, leave it plugged out for 10 sec's.
Lots of questions I know but it will help find the solution.

    thanks bren.
    i have always had NTL.
i have a usb stick on the kids one... cable on the other one.
when i disconnect the wireless router from my own one...and use the ntl cable modem as before..then the pages upload straight away.
    rebooted the router...to no avail.

Change the channel of your wireless network. I have found some adaptors don't respond well too some network channels.

    +1

There could be a clash of wireless channel with a neighbouring router. Download and run Netstumbler and it will show you what's in the neighbourhood and what channels they are on. Changing channel number by increasing by say 1 may not make a difference as there is frequency overlap.

I really need some help with a router/laptop problem.
I have been using my laptop and PS3 for the past 2 years with this router (buffalo airstation WHR-G54S) and have had no problems, but now that I`m trying to add a new laptop to the network the problems have started! At first the laptop detected my router but I couldn`t find my password to connect so,after a bit of googling for a solution,I resorted to resetting the router and now none of the laptops or my PS3 are finding it! They are all detecting other networks so I assume it`s a router problem - right?
I also tried saving the settings to USB key from PC to laptops but, although the laptops show a confirmation that I have added to the network, when I go to available connections it still doesn`t show up and when clicking on the `START BUTTON` > `NETWORK` it says I am not connected to any network!

Both laptops,my PC and the router are all in danger of getting turfed out the window very soon so any help would be greatly appreciated!
