A SICK YouTube user who posted videos of tragedies including Hillsborough was banned from the site – thanks to the ECHO.

Using the pseudonym Escapist 666 the user mocked the 96 Liverpool FC fans who lost their lives in a highly offensive clip which horrified supporters.

He also uploaded a distasteful video about the people who lost their lives in the 2001 Twin Towers terrorist atrocity.

After the ECHO highlighted the videos to YouTube bosses, Escapist 666’s account was disabled.

The company, owned by web giant Google, also pledged to bar other users who repeatedly flout the boundaries of decency on the popular website.

The triumph coincides with the launch of a campaign to prevent offensive messages about the 1989 football tragedy being posted on the internet.

A group of Liverpool FC fans want to start a petition banning sick comments which mock those Reds supporters who died.

They want sites such as Facebook and YouTube to outlaw antagonistic material which causes heartbreak to the families involved.

And Reds supporters are asking Manchester United fans to join them on a unified march, outside LFC’s Anfield stadium, ahead of the game between the two rivals.

Of particular anguish are certain internet user names which glorify the death of the 96 killed.

Julia Brannigan, 33, from Kirkby, is behind the campaign.

She told the ECHO: “We think more should be done to stop these vile names and messages.

“We have approached the police and sent messages to Old Trafford asking for their help.

“Some of the stuff you read on YouTube is really sickening and they should routinely remove comments and ban members for this kind of behaviour.

“We have contacted YouTube on many occasions.â€

Offensive messages on the internet about Hillsborough have increased significantly since the 20th anniversary. The Liverpool campaigners have also called for Reds fans posting sick messages about the Munich air tragedy, which killed 20 people including many of the Manchester United Busby Babes, to be banned.

Hillsborough Family Support Group chairwoman Margaret Aspinall, who lost her son James in Sheffield, promised to support the campaign.

She told the ECHO: “This is not only about Hillsborough, but any other tragic event that happens.

“A very small minority of Liverpool fans do chant offensive things to Manchester United fans, which we completely condemn.

“It is very upsetting that, 20 years on, people are still mocking what happened to our loved ones in Sheffield.â€

A YouTube spokeswoman said: “YouTube is a community site used by millions ofŠpeople in very positive ways.

“Sadly,Šas with any form of communication, thereŠis a tiny minority of people who try toŠbreak the rules.

“On YouTube these rules prohibit content like pornography, hate speech or gratuitous violence.

“When people see content they think is inappropriate they can flag it up and our staff then review it.

“If the content breaks our terms then we remove it and if a user repeatedly breaks the rules we disable their account.â€

It is sick for anyone to mock or make fun of anyone who has lost their lives in any kind of tragedy. These little cowards hide behind their computers making these comments when they don't have the balls to say it out in public. These are the true Scum!!

fair play to the echo.while they are right to involve united because if they had any balls theyd throw out those singing about it at old trafford, the type of person posting that stuff on the net probably sits in a darkened room all day and would run a mile if they had to go out and shout it in the street

fair play to them and everyone else involved. It's a shame that the penalties for this kind of behaviour are not more severe.
It will be interesting to see what kind of response comes from the utd fans. I wont be holding my breath although it would be a great breakthrough reguarding the relationship between the two clubs.
