Guys Hi, I don't know Pam but this is a story about Liverpool FC and Generosity taken from another Forum: My Dads’ story He and 3 mates, all Liverpool home & away fans, were getting the train from Lime Street to London to go see England V The Rest of the World 1963. (Puskas etc.) The other lads all had tickets my dad was going on the off chance of getting one outside. Whilst waiting on the platform to board the train, Shanks walked passed, my dad says “Bill have you a spare ticket for the match?†“ Nay son, yerve nay chance, it’s a sell oowt,†they explained how just my dad didn’t have one and they where all Reds, Bill couldn’t help but wished them a good trip down. No problem thanks any way Bill, all the lads were made up Bill stopped to talk to them. An hour into the journey, their carriage door opened and Bill Shankly stood there, â€which of you lards doesn’t’nay have a ticket?†Me Bill!! Shanks closes the door and hands my dad his ticket, “Now listen son, this is my ticket, it’s for the royal box! I don’t want tay sit there, and I’ll get in anywhoo, now, yer dressed smart enough so you’ll get in, just be on yer best behaviour, don’t let me down and don’t tell anyone or I’ll get in troubleâ€. I certainly won’t let you down Bill, Shanks leaves and all the lads can’t believe what’s happened. My dad got in and the place was full of stars celebrities and footballers, he had a couple of bottles of pale ale served to him and didn’t have to pay, the buzzer went and he was shown to his seat, he sat 3 rows behind members of the Royal family. (One of which died in a car accident on the way home, I can’t remember who he said?) He got the train home with the lads and swore them to secrecy, but a day or two later the Echo rang me dad asking for a story, my dad wouldn’t confirm the story, but the echo kept ringing, so my dad contacted the club and asked to speak to Bill Shankly, he spoke to bill and informed him the echo had got wind of the ticket story and my dad swore he didn’t tell anyone! Shanks just said “nay bother son, tell them, it’s not going to be a problem nowâ€. The Liverpool Echo printed the story from rags to riches with the amazing tale of me dad sat in the royal box.
And that's just class.Just fantastic how much Bill Shankly loved the club and it's fans.A true legend.
They should make a movie about him. They've done one about Clough, they should do one about Bill now. True Hero
hmmm. Thats an interesting one. I bet thats who it would be. He played so many bad guys that it be hard in a way to warm to him playing Bill
There's plenty of stories like this about Shanks. Think it was somebody on a documentary on LFC:TV who said he'd often go down the Docks and give away a few tickets on the morning of a match.
