Please dont take this as an anti rafa thread its defo not that its just a harmless thread Im just wondering whats peoples opinions on what would have happened to Liverpool if kenny hadnt resigned, we all know why he took his decision and everyone knows that after a few weeks he regretted it How do you think LFC would have developed under him in the premier league, how would he have dealt with manure's emergence??? What would his battles with whiskeynose have been like??? My opinion is that we would have had a more fruitful 90's than we had and i think he would have been more than a match for demento. I frimly believe we would have had at least 3 or 4 more title's and maybe another european cup Whats everyone else's thoughts????
We would have had a more fruitful team if he had remained, as Souness came in and destroyed the remains of a great team and sold players to soon Houghton Staunton and Beardsley been the main examples, but on a flip side I will say Kenny let his last team go very stale and Rush aside he had'nt made a top signing IMO since 87, and made some crazy ones in his last season Jimmy Carter WTF???, he let the back four go old together and refused the chance to Sign Gary Pallister in 88 before he went to the Mancs, had we signed Pallister the retirement of Jocky and leaving of Gillespie Hysen etc would'nt have been such a devestating blow, it was our dodgy back four that cost the early decline of the great team of the 80's i.e Palace scoring 4 against us and Everton doing the same in 2 consective FA cup seasons, and the way we let slip the title in 1991 due to terrible defending, but in answer to your question No I dont think we would have slid so badly to the extent that Souness had us finishing out of the top 6, anyway we'll never know so lets just look to the future.
Definetly would have had a better 1990's that's for sure, Souness, as much as he was a great player for us, as a manager he totally f***ed us up with the top players, still in their prime that he got rid of and by replacing them with less than average players! But I guess hindsight is a wonderful thing, I'm sure most of us thought he would just continue our success! Then Roy Evans was the easy decision at the time but clearly not the right one! Played some great attacking football but never had any real consistency, showed up by beating Newcastle on the Monday night (one of the 4-3 games, cant remember which one) followed up the following Saturday by defeat at Coventry Roy's problem was that he was just too nice and wanted to be a father firgure to the players, which is all well and good if, when required, he also had an authoritive side which I dont believe he had!
beardsley probably the most fatal of the players we lost too early. its still sickening to think about
