4 GOALS IN 15 GAMES: CAN TORRES DO IT? Paul Hassall 02 October 2009 Fernando Torres is edging ever closer to legend status after blasting his way towards a long-standing club record. The Spanish marksman is on the verge of becoming the fastest Reds striker in history to reach the landmark of 50 league goals after netting 46 in his first 64 matches. That means he needs to find the net just four times in his next 15 Barclays Premier League appearances to surpass Sam Raybould and Albert Stubbins; legends of the past who both reached the half century mark in their 80th game for the Reds. Given El Nino's recent hot-streak of nine goals in 10 matches it is a feat that is well within his grasp and a record that would add further weight to claims that he is already one of the greatest forward's in the club's illustrious history. Games it took the greats to hit 50: 80 Sam Raybould 80 Albert Stubbins 81 Roger Hunt 82 Jack Parkinson 83 John Aldridge 84 Ian Rush 88 Robbie Fowler 90 Gordon Hodgson 98 Harry Chambers 98 Kenny Dalglish 98 Michael Owen 104 Joe Hewitt 105 Ian St John 111 John Barnes 114 Robert Robinson 116 John Toshack 121 David Johnson 125 Dick Forshaw 125 Tom Miller 129 Jimmy Melia 139 Jack Balmer 160 Berry Niewenhuys 162 Alf Hanson 167 Billy Liddell 175 Kevin Keegan 208 Jack Cox 221 Terry McDermott 269 Ray Kennedy 271 Arthur Goddard 280 Alan A'Court 281 Steven Gerrard 302 Steve Heighway
Remember the match when Fowler hit 4 against Boro in 96 and meant he was the quickest striker to hit 100 (unsure whether it was lge or total goals) for the reds. In the Kop that day and I really believed that team would take the title....If only it wasnt for David James and nintendos......
John Barnes's record stands out for me. 111 Games to reach 50 goals from the left wing is phenomenal. Torres's record is not bad either.
Ye no problem. Expect tomorrows game to have a couple of goals so would think Nando will get at least one.
Excellent goals per game ratio and of course he will do it with at least one tomorrow. His first 50 goals for the club are on LFC tv now brings back some great memories
Few hat-tricks, goals against Chelsea and United, he is truly a World Class player and he will reach the target comfortably in my opinion.
