I've done a search for LFC books here and I couldn't find any threads, I was wondering could people list some good books, there may be a few that I have missed down the years, and I would expect the reviews here to be better than Amazons. Thanks...
"Walk Alone" By Craig Johnston, was a brilliant read. He retired from football at his peak, aged just 28.(after the 1988 fa cup final) to look after his sister... who was in a coma at the time,in Austrailia. But was back in Liverpool just a year later, as the tragedy of Hillsborough unfolded,Giving support to grief stricken families, and attending the many funerals. He also raised tens of thousands of pounds for the hillsborough families. Many clubs tried to tempt him out of retirement, but he declined all offers. when asked some years later in an interview,as to why he never played again.. he said "After playing for Liverpool, and those fans...then i could never pull on another clubs jersey" The man had a touch of class about him, thats for sure.
When Football Was Football:A Nostalgic Look at a Century of the Club Got this a few weeks ago, great read and the pics are excellant. Here's the thread on it.... http://www.irishkop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11173
43 years with the same bird. Brian Reades book about him growing up as a Liverpool supporter. Great book and some interesting stories. This is Jaza'a official recommendation and is more credibal than Opera.
Geoff Twentyman - Secret Diary of a Liverpool Scout. I'm just coming to the end of this book and its been a joy to read.
bought this for my hols. seen it advertised in one of this season's matchday programmes. tried a load of shops but none had it in stock so had to buy online.
Here We Go gathering cups in May....brilliant read. 7 authors, 7 european cup finals. It's class. far foreign Land....great read about one man's journey to istanbul...short enough book so you'll read it in no time.....think there was a thread a while back but it was on all books, not just liverpool. But think there's some great suggestions in there too.
season on the brink was a good read probably a bit dated now in terms of its about the 2005 season with the paperback update having the 06 season in it.
That thread i was on about was called 'what are you reading' and is in the entertainment section....quite general but still plenty of liverpool books suggested. I can't post a link through this phone though. Sorry! Happy reading.
I'd go along with any of Paul Tompkins efforts above, Ray Of Hope by Dr Andrew Lees about midfield maestro Ray Kennedy is also essential reading. ________ extreme q vaporizer
No problem Nazzy thanks for that, I'll exchange Tommy Smiths "Anfield Iron" in exchange for that. ________ Yamaha V50 history
Cracking book Cracking book like Geoff Twentymen's have read it cover to cover a few times now. Not too bad but Balague but he has changed a lot since that book IMO Great books but heavy on stats and such..good insight though.
Fowler: My Autobiography is a fab read and will bring a tear 2 ur eye when you feel his love for our beloved Pool. And how Houllier and Thompson treated him and subsequently forced him out makes my blood boil. Lots more things on it too which will fascinate you. A must read.
it's a while since i read god's book, the story that sticks out for me is the one about the king giving him a lift home from training when he was with the youths. brilliant1
From Where I Was Standin - Just finished this book and its class. Its a liverpool fan's account of his trip to Heysel. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Where-Was-S...=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1246296793&sr=1-9
