I'm not 100% sure what they mean by the output source, but i think they mean, to have the laptop as an output to another screen.
If thats the case, press the 'fn' button (normally at bottom of keyboard and two in) and while its pressed, also press the 'f4' or 'f5' button (the one which has a square with two lines either side). This just sets the output screen to an external source. Ill have a look and see if there is a special setting for specific screens.
But i think thats all you should need.

I am nearly sure it's a funtion button that switches from the laptop screen to the tv screen if you look at your F1 F2 etc keys there should be a key with tv screens on it by selecting it using the FN key it will switch from the laptop to TV

thanks for that liam,f4 looks like it has a tv screen logo.when i press fn and f4 a picture of 2 laptops comes up with an arrow pointing to the right in between them, don't know what the fook that means.
i thought it might have been a control panel thing, had a look in there but couldn't find anything.
i don't want to take the cable out of the box till i know it's defo going to work cos if i do and it doesn't that'll be 27 yoyo down the swanny...

If you plug in the cable, and select this. Never hooked laptop to TV only to a projector.
    It should work then

Didnt read through the thread in detail Willie but whenever I do it I just connect the VGA cable from telly to laptop and then hit the "source" button on the tv remote a couple of times until whatevers on my laptop screen appears on the telly-dont think I ever had to change any settings on the laptop itself? Is it definitely necessairy to go messing around with laptop settings?

Willie, if you were to PM either Bren100 or Elvis, I'd wager a tonne that they'll sort you out in a few mins on this, both seem very nifty on this sort of thing.

And Bren gave me some sound advice on this kind of malarky before.

I'd hang fire til they give you their input if it was me...

You may need to set the TV to AV or AV2 also

    2 parts to this

OK - there are 2 things you need to do here.

    1. Set the source channel on your TV. This usually covers Scart1, Scart2, HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA etc etc. If you do it on the remote there is a chance some of these are set to "SKIP" by default to they might not come up. Likely to be a similar button on the actual TV. You want to keep pressing it till it says VGA on screen.

    2. You need to change the output on your laptop to send a picture out through VGA connection. Keep FN pressed and also press the function key that has what looks like a rectangle on it. On my Dell laptops both says "CRT/LCD" on F8 and this is what I need to use.

You should be able to get the sound from the laptop onto the TV also using a 3.5mm to twin phono cable - http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=31700. Headphone type jack goes into headphone jack in laptop and the red/white connectors should (check it!) have slots beside the VGA connection. Make sure laptop volume is turned up!

Any other questions give us a shout.

Superfan, generally the source means the output source, as in the port where you plug in the cable. Does it ask you anything about setting Hertz?
