I really like tomkins mainly because although biased like all the rest of us he tries to back up his opinions. The reactions of some of our fans on radio phone ins etc every time the result isnt perfect is scary, if we followed them the club would have a new manager and 11 new players every 6 months. I think its important spome fans remember we SUPPORT the club and back rafa and the players as much as we can. And i really think the kop chanting lucas name would bring him on loads because at the moment all he is lacking is that by more confidence to assert himself on games, probably the confidence he lost when he was disgracefully booed
Its funny reading some of the books about the great Liverpool teams back in the 70s and 80s and comparing it to today's premier league in terms of expectations. They often lost games early in the season and drew their fair sahre, however the fans never panicked. Nowadays even a draw is a crisis. The main difference back then was 2 points for a win, so you could afford to lose a few games and be champions. The margin for error in the last few seasons has got less and less. Chelsea who finished third got more points last season than the Arsenal unbeaten team in 04. that is an amazing stat
As always a great read...he always has a positive spin on the situation and can clearly back it up with the stats
It's the old "Sky Sports Generation" argument I suppose. So many fans have grown up with nothing but the Sky Sports ticker to tell them how to feel about their club. If Sky says Liverpool fans are panicked, that makes them panic. Rupert Murdochs biggest crime has been the death of common sense. Well, his second biggest.
Which leads me to this from Tomkins, such a simplistic statement but alas so often unheard of these days.
the man deserves massive credit for that move if you ask me.its easy for me to say i wont buy a new shirt or whatever but writing is his living and hes taking a massive hit to his pocket by not writing for the site, especially when ya allow the audience it gave him.i believe he pulled a book from the shelves because he decided he couldnt stand over what was in it regarding the owners
Fair play Tompkins, he gets a lot of (I think unfair) criticism but no-one could say that he doesn't love LFC. He won't be pulling any punches from here on in I'd say. Keep it up Paul.
fair play to him i particularly liked this bit Of course, both he and his players made mistakes to compound matters – but there should have been more ‘insurance’ built into the squad, to allow for the inevitable human error (managers can’t get every decision right, and players will lose form and/or get injured). That’s why large squads are necessary if you are expected to achieve great things – they provide the insurance. Otherwise how do you contend with injuries to top players and remain competitive? How do you keep players on their toes? BenÃtez sold players believing he would have the full amount to reinvest; therefore, when that money was transferred to debt repayment, he was left short on numbers and quality.
Fair play to him. A fella with morals and a great work ethic. I believe he was only getting paid £30 per piece but it was the exposure which the off. site was giving him towards his books and Tomkins Times which made it worth while for him. True integrity there!
