I know O'Leary's name has been tipped for the Ireland job but with Souness making it clear he doesnt want the Bolton job - does he have the Ireland job in mind? Money permitting, would you be happy with Souness as the new Ireland manager? Would you take him?
The fact that he is an ex- Rangers player and Manager makes no difference to me what so ever .... Id take him as the new manager if Delaney would release the funds to get him in and Id take Sammy Lee as his assistance/head coach but that is only a dream, Sammy is a very good coach, just not managment quality-yet anyway.
One of the best players we ever had, but as a manager and a person i dont like him and would not like to see it happen, cant forgive him for selling his story to the s*n after his heart operation !
True, I suppose he also sold every Irish player he had on his books except Duffer at Blackburn - but still we're not going to attract high profile managers though?
Lads lets face it, we need better than a premiership manager if we have any ambitions to win any european championship or greater. We need a good german coach or someone that has a proven record in international games and a motivator that can actually get players to believe they can win and not always except second best!!
dont think souness is the answer dont really rate him as a coach we need some one with a proven track record
No way, has failed miserably as a manager...we need someone with proven international credentials...good motivator and organisation wise and has a style of football that make us proud...
First choice for me would definitely be Paul Jewell. Failing that I'd settle for David O'Leary. As for the money they'll be offered, story is the new manager will get €6m over 4 years, at 30k a week that ain't too shabby!
Nah, every club he's managed at the players have hated him, last thing we nedd is for the few decent players we have not showing up due to 'injuries'
Paul Jewell would do nicely but why would any half decent manager want the job with such a limited supply of decent players and such an obnoxious attitude in the press and the stands, at least the England job comes with a decent pool of players. Stans not too blame what did we expect from a total novice.
Don't we have that already !!! I dunno maybe we need a manager that will knock some heads together (I'm thinking Stephen Ireland and Robbie Keane here), get Doyle and Keane to to actually form a partnership, get Reid to run a few laps and play our best players in their best position i.e. Finnan at right back and not O'Shea and Joey O'Brien in the middle. The shitesters won't like a tough manager coming in but the players that don't have their heads up their arses (Hunt, McShane, Dunne.....) should respond to him. The softly, softly approach hasn't worked and won't. We've lost the one thing we always had and that was our passion, workrate and endeavour. Look at what Toshack has had to put up with Wales, mediocre players complaining about their 5 star luxury hotel whilst playing shite on the pitch. I bet if he had it to do again he'd go in much harder with much less of the kids gloves approach. If some players don't like the fact its not a little holiday for them anymore then they can fcuk off and we'll end up with a team of players that do want to play and perform for their country. Have to admit when Souness turned down any Bolton interest I thought it was fairly likely that he fancied the Ireland job. Whatever about the supposed pressures of it its nothing compared to that of trying to keep a poor team with poor support up in the Premiership. We're not world beaters but we have enough decent players to qualify for Championships ala Scotland (maybe) if not more so. All he has to do is organise them right over a two year period and he's a hero. I'm not saying I want him as the next manager but I just don't want O'Leary or any other ex Ireland player to be very honest.
Well if he takes the job he obviously doesn't. Betcha he dislikes lazy, dishonest prima donnas as do an awful lot of fans. Betcha he'll love the energy and endeavour of the likes of Hunt and actually start him as do/would an awful lot of fans. Betcha he'll think playing the best players in their best position isn't half a bad starting point as do an awful lot of fans. Betcha he'll think coaching our best two forwards to link up isn't a.............you get the idea, we could do worse basically and have been.
would it be an absolutely ridiculous suggestion for the FAI to sound out Paco Ayesteran for the Job? don't know if he has any ambitions to be a 1st Team Manager at some stage but if he has now is as good a time as any on the back of the great work he's done with Rafa.
I have mixed feelings on Souness to be honest One of the best midfield players we have ever had, disastrous time as manager - hated him for his S#n story but he has grown on me the past few years and seems to have mellowed of late He has a lot of experience, good and bad it has to be said but he is a real footballing man, talks a lot of sense & won't put up with crap or primadonnas I'd take him over O'Leary in a heartbeat, that's for sure
