Aquilani when fit , will Lucas move out and Alberto take over as our box to box midfielder or will Gerrard drop back into midfield and watch Alberto step in .
I personally can see Masch playing especially v weaker teams at home as our only defensive midfielder and Gerrard and Aquilani supporting Torres.
At times one from Gerrard and Aquilani Dropping back when required.
From what i have seen and read in parts .... Gerrard may act as the box to box midfielder with his pace and strength braking through defences and midfield's and Aquilani working his magic in tighter defences from a higher position ?

He'll be the box to box player,

Gerrard is only half the player in CM. It's a myth that he is a world c lass midfielder.

IMO Gerrard will be left up front with his lover , as the opportunity was there to drop him back for Lucas and drop Benayoun into the hole .

what imo he was bought for , nice if Lucas gave Rafa something to think about and nice to settle Aquilani slowly and nicely considering his injury record.

I know lucas is playing well (compared to previous seasons) but I just dont think he is good enough to be a regular so Aqua and masch in mid with gerrard ahead. Lucas will end up filling in for masch in lesser games or as sub.

Ye, i think he'll be getting lucas' place myself. and as said above hopefully lucas gives rafa a selection head ache when alberto is finally fit. I heard Alberto is more of an attackin midfielder, not some one who takes the ball out from his own half. It'll be interesting when he does start playing. More options is only a good thing anyway!

Aquilani will play in the '2'. I suspect Mascherano will be asked to play a more disciplined role and restrict his (usually fruitless) offensive forays.

I think Benitez is of the opinion that the Tores-Gerrard axis is key to our aspirations.

imo liverpool never really allowed Gerrard develop as a central midfield player.I pesonally beleive had he been left to play there regularly he could have been a better player than Roy Keane in that position.I think he could have done the same job as Keane and scored more goals.

Houlier and Rafa between them had him playing in several positions i.e. wide right,as a holding midfielder just in front of the back four, the role he plays now and even right back.never relly given the chance to develop as a top class central midfielder.

i dont think he could do a Roy keane type of role... and score more goals.
as for your last point, Gerrard would be top class, at whatever position he plays in. but i understand your viewpoint on him. what positon would you prefer Gerrard to play?as he is, or dropped back to CM? its wide open to debate i suppose.

Put him in goals he'd still be one of the best in the world. The lad is a footballer. I think he's equally as good in CM as well as played off the striker. Id like to see Rafa drop him back there the odd time. Like when he's been man marked, drop him back and put Yossi in the hole to throw a cat amongst the pidgeons

I like this type of formation

    -----------------Riena------------------

    -----Skertel---Carragher----Agger-------

    Johnson------Mascherano-------Aurelio---

    --v------------Aquilani-------------v----

    --v---Kuyt----------------Gerrard--v----

    --v------------Torres--------------v---

Interesting ,, but very rare Rafa goes 3 at the back but if memory serves me right we have won all our 4+ games with 3 at the back.
Usually happens if were behind and have let the leash off.Suits us IMO as the Tempo increases we play much better ... we are the comeback kings with 25 points since august 2008 ,9 more than the closet comeback side Arsenal.

I agree mate, Lucas is just not good enough. The games pass him by + he doesn't influence them at all.
