It's a joke that Reid will not be starting in midfielder for us against Cyrpus never mind not in the squad, what is Trapattoni problem with him, we know he can offer more than Andrews and Whelan, like Liam miller not even with any club is in the squad before him says it all, See Reid in action against Norwich few weeks back in excellent form scoring 2 goals, some off our squad joke **** me Morrison should be in there aswell in excellant form, Squad: Shay Given (Manchester City), Keiren Westwood (Coventry), Joe Murphy (S****horpe); John O'Shea (Manchester United), Kevin Foley (Wolves), Richard Dunne (Manchester City), Stephen Kelly (Fulham), Kevin Kilbane (Hull), Eddie Nolan, Sean St Ledger (both Preston); Aiden McGeady (Celtic), Damien Duff (Fulham), Darron Gibson (Manchester United), Glenn Whelan (Stoke), Keith Andrews (Blackburn), Liam Miller (Unattached), Stephen Hunt (Hull), Andy Keogh (Wolves), Liam Lawrence (Stoke); Caleb Folan (Hull), Kevin Doyle (Wolves), Robbie Keane (Tottenham), Shane Long (Reading), Leon Best (Coventry).
Agree with you on Andy Reid.He has shed a shit load of weight too and he looks vert fit compared to the way he used to.he also has that bit of creativity which we are lacking. Not critising the two boys in midfield ,they do put in a good shift but, they lack creativity. Think Trapp needs to bury the hatchet with Andy Reid.. As for morrision..Ive no time for this joker at all.Its hard to believe hes a football. Was at Ireland V Norway a couple of years ago.Morrision was on the bench. For the whole game he spent it laughing and joking. With about 5 minutes to go, he jumped the barrier( i was sitting on the half way line just behind the dug out) and walked off down the tunnel. The second half i spent some of his time on his I-Pod.Disgraceful behaviour and since then ive no time for this guy at all.
Agree that reid is technically better than most in our midfield, But trap picks players to fit his system and he obviously doesnt see reid fitting into this system. And lets be honest we all think we are experts but its hard to argue with traps record so far for us and i think he is gonna bring us to the world cup.......
Trap has been very very lucky so far imo to have got us so many points. The performances have been very poor. Even if he doesn't think Andy Reid fits into his system he would be a great man to hav on the bench if we were a goal down witth 10 or 15 mins to go. Same as Delap. He would cause havoc with those throws. And i dunno what he see's in Liam Miller who cant even get a club to sign him on a free, picking him over Fahy who has been excellent since he joined birmingham, and Carsley,
Reid should at the very least be in the squad but if the system is getting results then there is no need to change it and even if we have had a bit of luck...results are results!
Its a bit of a joke, id love to ask trap what liam miller has done to merit a place in the squad over other players i mean lee carsley, chris mc cann and reid should be in there ahead of miller, the lad hasnt even got a club, how can he even be match fit, he is not there on merit i really cant understand it. Andy reid should at least be in the squad fair enough he might not suit traps system but he is different to anyone else we have he has a bit of guile about him and can pick out a pass and is solid from set pieces, trap doesnt trust him to put in a full 90 min shift up and down the pitch and after the falling out he had with him in mainz where reid was leading the sing song at 2 am with his guitar i dont think there was any way back for him under trap
it,s a joke that reidy not even in the squad never mind starting the game. we have 2 defensive midfielders who won,t create nothing so were going to depend on the wingers.and some luck
Seen him on ssn yesterday and thought he was after losing a load of weight.Trap uses 2 workers in his system which is fair enough-he's the manager and his track record is immense but when we go behind/need to break the deadlock we have 2 players who are ideal for a crafty through ball and neither of them are in our squad for very different reasons which is a shame.Id have reid in my 1st XI personally but then again who am I to question Trappatoni.
can't understand how that joke of a footballer liam miller is in our international panel.sad state of affairs with this clown involved.there must be 10-15 irish lads playing in the prem and championship since the beginning of the season who deserve a shot.there's lads in the LOI much better than him.really can't understand it..
Andy Reid is one of those players who gets better with every game he doesn't play. He hasn't been able to get a regular game at club level since he left Forest for various reasons. He has started 80 games in 4 years and half of them were with Charlton. In normal circumstances I'd agree with having him in the squad but if he is disruptive its probably best he stays at home and concentrated on getting his game at Sunderland. Staunton is the last manager to pick him regularly
I think Andrews has been impressive and hes a goal threat as well but I'd definately have Reid in the squad. Still you cant argue with 2nd in the group (yet!)
I fully agree that Reid should be in the squad. Whether Trap decides to start him or not is a different matter but we are not gifted with a huge pool of talented players and Andy Reid could definitely do a job for us. As for this rubbish that Andy Reid wouldn't Traps system and that Trap doesn't want to change his system, why then is so adamant to get Stephen Ireland back in the fold. If Stephen Ireland does ever come back the first thing Trap is going to have to do is change his system to accommodate him! No matter what anyone says the Andy Reid situation is not about footballing reasons and is 100% related to the incident spoken about earlier regarding the sing song in Mainz. It's patethic and to make matters worse, a friend of mine who is in the Ireland squad told me when we were discussing this that it was Liam Brady who went off to get the guitar for Andy Reid to play!
Andy Reid deserves another run in the International side without question. Taking nothing away from Whelan and Andrews, Reid has the experience and the class in which we seem to be lacking, to help us push for what now certainly seems a road down the playoffs. Hopefully Trap can find it in himself to end Reid's international exile, and only do what is right for the team and the country. Also can we draw a line under the Stephen Ireland saga and forget the selfish pitiful excuse for a man. He doesn't want to play for reasons only known to himself, so he should be left to wallow in his own misery and self pity, while he watches us in South Africa from his armchair. He'll only regret his childish and selfish actions when it is too late
Or we'll not qualify and he'll laugh at us because we couldn't win the World Cup,. I'm not defending Stephen Ireland, but i'd prefer him and Reid in the team rather than Whelan and Andrews or Gibson. Ireland is a class act, him in behind Robbie and Keane would produce the magic he has for Spurs. But thats my opinion.
I do see your point, but the way Mr Ireland, has behaved over the whole situation in my opinion is deplorable. Its not a good example for the kids to follow. It is one's highest honour being asked to represent one's country, and the sooner Mr Ireland realises that, the better for both himself and the nation
+1 Id give anything to represent my country, and I would think every Irish person is the same,. His attitude is terrible, and he is supposed to set an example for children, but as you said for whatever magic reason that only he knows, everyone would benefit from him playing with us.
Lads, as mentioned in above posts, Ireland does NOT want to play for the side, so no point going on about him. We've gotten this far without him so fcuk him, he's bananas anyway!
I've just read this on rte.ie and I'm fuming. Trappatoni is a complete plonker. How the hell can he call up Martin Rowlands ahead of Andy Reid in place of Steven Reid. Trap's personal dislike of Andy Reid as a person is denying Ireland of one of the most creative players we have playing at the moment. Reid was outstanding against United on Saturday and at the very least deserves to be in the squad! http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2009/1006/ireland.html QPR's Martin Rowlands has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad as cover for Steven Reid for the World Cup qualifiers against Italy and Montenegro. Reid has just returned to fitness after an Achilles injury but had to sit out Blackburn Rovers' 6-2 defeat at the hands of Arsenal on Sunday. Rowlands' call-up is another snub to Sunderland's Andy Reid, who was instrumental for his team once again when creating the Black Cats' goal against Manchester United at the weekend. Rowlands will link up with the squad today, while so too will Richard Dunne after he scored for Villa in their 1-1 draw with old club Man City on Monday night.
