Mobile Phone Scam - NTL

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just to let you know there is a new mobile phone scam doing the rounds at the minute. I got this message today from mobile number 0879580210.

"For just E7.50/mth you can pause rewind & record all your favourite Tv shows from ntl using our new DVR service. Visit ntl.ie for details. To opt out reply stop"

I didn’t reply to it as I thought it was very suspicious and as it turns out I had good reason to be:

If you reply stop you will be charged every week and will have to contact your mobile operator to get it stopped.

Cheers mate,

got that text myself yesterday but disregarded it as advertising nonsense, and remember thinking it was a bit of a random number to be getting NTL texts from! Unreal what people try these days to get a bit of cash of ya!

Anyone who falls for that sort of crap needs their head examined.

If it doesn't come from an official source, delete it.

Almost as bad as the other NTL scam ,....

that they provide quality tv services ;) :D

Can't ComReg or some other regulator put a stop to these phone scams ... it's crazy that they are permitted ?

I think anyone who gets this text, or others like it, should complain immediately to ComReg and provide details like the number that sent it, the time it was sent etc.

The advertisements Breach the comsumer protection act 07...You must be notified clearly of the terms beforehand, and in many situations a cooling off period is allowed...

i don't think it'd make much difference. It's probably a pay as you go phone they're using. Only way they could trace it is if the scammers registered the number with the provider. Not likely if they're using it for scamming people.
