I am giving the auld marathon a bash this year and have been workin me hole off to prepare. clocking about 45 miles a week on the road..not too shabby. Then I actually looked up the history behind the marathon and turns out the whole martathon idea started in some war (battle of marathon)..some chap ran 26 miles and then died...hope I dont die!!
My mate mickyc is going to do it, he says, i dont believe him though. Fair play to ya for giving it a bash, 26 miles is no easy thing to do
best of luck mate, i did it a few years ago. you will be fine, there are alot of people along the way encouraging you - when you go by a group of people and they are cheering, kids giving you high fives - it gives you a bit of an adrenalin boost. There is a really good vibe between everyone running too
I honestly dont know...I eat a fair bit. Nothing performance enhancing or that...have you any suggestions?? Are you doin it?
Fair play to ya for doing it, and best of luck with it. I thought about doing it for a minute, but my lazy lifestyle didn't agree with following up on that idea. Maybe next year...
I do a fair bit of training myself, be it either 10K runs cycling and the football team...sometimes I take creatine sometimes, not for the muscle building side of things, but because of the ATP (energy) it gives you...other times I find it very hard to fuel my body at the right times, at I find that i dip at a point during the day or evening, regardless of the slow burning carbs i eat...
Im gutted, i miss the registration date by a day so wanted to do it !!!! Thats what you get for being lazy!!
If you have been doing 45 miles a week then you will be fine.hope you have done a few 20 milers.Load up with loads of carbs 2 or 3 days beforehand and drink lots of water (2 litres a day). Get plenty of rest day before and good nights sleep. Have bowl of porridge if u can (slow releasing food) about 2 1/2 hours before and a sports drink 60 mins before. Go out and enjoy it.Its not easy but if it is your first, remember to enjoy because when you cross the finish it is one of best and emotional moments in life. BTW you will burnabout 3000 calories. Enjoy
well done to all, The most i done was the 10ks, done it for several years on the trot running the ladies marathon's that was my limit, used to train in the phonex park, and loved it - knee is totally knackered had 2 operations on it so now its just watching sports and we all know where my loyalties lie. hope thats a good enough excuse. for me
A good mate of mine from Donegal will be doing it id imagine. He is a commited runner and was in Amsterdam this weekend for the marathon.
aint gonna run it, but ill be volunteering at the start finish line as an emergency medical first responder...........ready to help if anybody does collapse
i think that if you call 01 6232250, then they may take a late registration, i heard someone talking about it today
Ahhhhhhh I did it and I didnt die....that in my books is a great success. Smashed into the wall at about 15 miles, worst pain in the world (possibly ever), after about 40 bottles of water, 4 club energise' and a whole tonne of energy gels I finally got to the end in one piece...wow its a good feeling!!
