Lets continue where we left off.

Villa are on a downer after the Wigan result, and we're on a high.

Another 3 points is a must at home.
2-0

id say it could be trickier than we expect o neill will play for a draw i reckon 2 1 myself we need to score early and if we do we will push on is the o neill bubble about to burst

Can see us getting three goals on monday, well hoping anyway. Think Rafa will play the same team except for Ayala maybe. Think the way the team wwas set up was spot on as Johnson and Insua give us so much needed width and act like wing backs rather than full backs.
Torres to score two and Lucas the third.
Would gratefully take a one nil win though :D

I can also see us getting 3 goals. I think Villa are little shocked and will be tired after last nights exploits. Like to see Torres and Johnson link up again. Also maybe a debut for Kyrgiakos. Lets hope Benitez has got what we need - another solid defender

This is not forgone conclussion of a game but think we have upper hand and 3 points will be perfect confidence boost with some 'easier' games coming up

Football is a fickle old game, and moods change amazingly. We SHOULD win, but I don't know.

Played two Monday night games last year – Everton and West Ham – and only picked up two points.

Nightime games bring a better atmosphere, and more expectancy.

I see no reason to change the team unless Skrtl is fit.

Play Macherano a wee bit deeper continuing his role of bringing it out of defence. I say as Lucas' confidence grows, he will become a lot more involved in attacking play.

Villa are at a low ebb at the moment, but reactions and all that.

Our centre halfs will need to be a bit more decisive and dominant.

O'Neill will instruct Shorey and Young to push on Johnson as much as possible, this will be the acid test and he will need Dirk to be on top of his game defensively as well.

With Heskey likely to start up top we can expect plenty of high ball, if Skrtl is in the line up I hope they do employ that tactic,, but Ayala did well from set pieces against Stoke.

Phil!
22-08-2009, 09:01 AM
We are definately strong enough to beat Villa and if we play like Wednesday we will. Think we should start with the same team as all did fine during the week. Think Villa will sit back and attempt to hit us on the brek with the pace of Young and Agbonlohor so Mach will need a big game to break up these attacks and its important that Carra and Ayala/Skrtel dont get caught out.

Think we will be stronger in the end..

We should win this game, Villa are on a poor run at the moment.

Well we should win all our home games, but that never going to happen someone will always put 11 behind the ball and make it hard.

Don't want to start with drawing games this early in the season thats what killed us last season. And the thought of losing is unthinkable.

An early goal and I think we could hit a few past them. Think this will be a tight game and won by the odd goal so I will go for a 1-0. Goal by Gerrard.

It's my firsy game this season so hopefully we have a good tempo about our game and get an early goal and even go in at half time with a 2 goal advantage that would be ideal because then villa would have to come out and attack

Villa aren't the type to park the bus imo.. if anything they'll leave themselves exposed, hence I can see nothing but a home win.

Well i think were playing them at a good time, i know that sometimes teams can have a bounce back effect after a bad result but i don't really think that Villa will have themselves sorted out for this one. Its essential that we just hit them with everything we've got from the start, if we get one in early enough i think they'll fall apart and we'll win comfortably. The longer it goes on without a goal the more belief they'll have.

I'd go with the same team as last time out except i'm sure we're going to see our new centre back coming in for Ayala.

Rafa doesn`t give the kids much of a chance of playing in the 1st team.
He seems to prefer buying ready made players than playing kids that are with us for a few years.

I think after Insua's seamless transition to the first team Rafa will be much more inclined to move players on that he feels are ready. I suspect Kelly could be our cover at right back for the season and Ayala getting a good game under his belt has really improved his chances of more first team football.

Ngog,Spearing,Nemeth,Eccleston,Pacheco,Dalla Valle,Mavinga,Buchtmann,BRUNA,Simon etc should save us millions in transfer fees leaving us able to bid against the heavyweights for the best players in the world.
Depends on how many Rafa brings through.

Anyway, tonight is a good night to bring in Ayala.
Villa have lost two games in a row in the EPL and Europe and Ayala needs games to boost his confidence and experience.

O`Neill will be happy to defend for this game and try to nick it with 1 goal.We need an early goal against these Mickey Mouse clubs that play 11 behind the ball.
Johnston and Insua overlapping will make a big difference this year.

I was under the impression that Carew picked up some sort of injury playing for Norway just before the season started, don't think he's played their first two games and i would be happy enough to not see his name on the team sheet today too!

Either way the only way that Ayala can prove he's able to play against tougher opposition is to play against them!! There's no easy way and we can't sit here an complain that Rafa doesn't give youngsters a chance and then when a chance opens up change our minds.

I wonder is there any way Rafa would consider starting the new Greek lad tonight with Heskey in mind. I would worry about Ayala against the Hesk but hopefully our defence doesn't have much to do tonight.

An early goal and I think the floodgates could open Villa have one of the weakest defences in the league at the minute imo. Can't wait for it now anyway need to gather some momentum after Stoke, I hope and think we should win comfortably, but I would take a scrappy one nil.

Apparently the Greek lad isnt match fit so he can't play. Not sure how fit you have to be to play centre half

Can't see Villa opening us up unless we make a defensive botch up. If we approach this in the right way we should win comfortably, let's see a nice positive approach to the game and wipe them off the pitch.

I hope everybody is right about Villa being open tonight but considering the beating we gave them last season and their poor start to the season i wouldn't be surprised to see them take a cautious approach tonight.

No ngog on the bench today, obviously then voronin is 2nd choice a head of him. Can only see reira coming on to make a difference if needed, other than that bringing on babel or voronin for any of the starting 11 to grab a goal is a biy iffy but i don't think we'll need that to happen anyway...

I'm surprised with the Villa line-up. Playing Agbonlahor up front alone shouldn't be too much cause for concern. He has pace, but is very lightweight, and I can't see the likes of Reo-Coker and Beye doing anything but lumping it forward to him rather than play it into feet, which should be bread and butter for Carragher and Skrtel.

The biggest threat will be from Milner and Young. They like to switch sides, and I just hope that Insua and Johnson don't get caught too far up the field too often.

Oh for God's sake.

To be honest, Liverpool have been very one-dimensional going forward. Gerrard and Torres are all too predictable so far. The central midfield duo will not go more than five yards forward with a pass, and Carragher is simply lumping the ball up. I'm genuinely worried.

You can say that Torres is getting little service, and that is true, but his touch is very heavy tonight. I accept that Villa are doubling up on him, but that's still no excuse for a poor first touch. Gerrard is a bystander thus far. Yossi has been surprisingly wasteful in possession. There is absolutely no need for Masch and Lucas now, given the score. Dirk looks like a passenger.

I'm not saying that the game is beyond Liverpool, but so many things have to change.

As one of you have said, there is far too much back-talk from the players. The players seem to be paying too much attention to the crowd's reaction rather than focusing on the task at hand.

Torres just hasn't started the season well and seems to have a grump on every game. Now we have reina throwing a strop and we're 2 down. We just don't look capable of breaking teams down regularly. So we beat Stoke at home 4-0, so what we should do. Villa are the next level up so get a finger out and show some passion. i'll be suprised if we win from here, but stranger things have happened. Lucas is crap, fact!!!!!!!!!!!!

CrazyHorse
24-08-2009, 08:03 PM
Not a good first half performance, we've been way too predictable, and not near enough players have put in a performance of note.

Reina himself has lost it, getting booked too, but he has the whole game right in front of him, and can see what we can see, hence his frustration.

Nothing could be done about their first goal, shit happens, but its the reaction to that goal, or rather, the lack of it that is most worrying.
The 2nd goal was a complete disaster.. Davis didn't even have to use his full height to get the header in, and worse of all, JC & Nando completely bottled the challenge.
If a certain Dutch player who plays for us and was on the field, and was one of those 2 players marking Davis, than his obituary would probs have been written by now.

No imagination out there tonight thus far, but Im not writing the Reds off yet, we are a better team than Villa, and we are more than capable of getting at least a point tonight, if not the full 3.

The crowd need to get behind their team out there, there waiting to be entertained, but sometimes that crowd need to give to the team first, tonight is one of those times.

We need something different out there tonight, Villa are alot more mobile than Stoke, and it was never gonna be a walk in the park, but as I said, we are the better team.

Enough of the negativity boys, if the real Reds come out in the 2nd half, we could win this yet.

Neither Gerrard or Torres are playing well, Kuyt has missed several sitters and Benayoun done what he often does, go missing. Pretty bad performance alright but it was a bad stroke of luck that turned it on us, we don't have that cutting edge when teams sit back and Villa were able to do that all night. I don't think its the end of the world but we do need to get a good performance in. I think Kuyt is very poor in these kind of games, doesn't have the close control to deal with intricate passing and movement.

Unless we get in some quality before the window closes we will really struggle. this sort of game is going to be the norm at Anfield this season and unless we have a creative player who can turn the game the sideways passes from Mascherano and Lucas will just not win us games. Voronin and Babel have been absolutely useless and that's our impact players of the bench. We are in a sorry state yet again.
Unless we get in some quality before the window closes we will really struggle. this sort of game is going to be the norm at Anfield this season and unless we have a creative player who can turn the game the sideways passes from Mascherano and Lucas will just not win us games. Carragher looks a shadow of when he was at his best. Money money money, we don't have it and we're in the brown stuff based on this performance.

+1

Lose 2 games in 38 last year and now 2 in 3 games thats improvement for you... Something is wrong with the attitude of the players and I think its coming from the attitude from the manager, something is deadly wrong at the club and its effecting everyone. Rafa will bring us the league but will it be under the yanks? Get the fu*king yanks out now...

No we can't

How many did the mancs lose last season? 5 was it? they will lose the same amount if not more, Chelsea will aswell, Spurs and City ok are doing well at the moment but it wont last all teams hit a bad patch we are having ours early, when spurs and city hit theres spurs havent got the players to pull them out of it and city have a team of superstars how will whing and moan when they are in theres. Mancs and chelsea and arsenal will all have bad patches, Ok its a terrible terrible result but its not the end of the world 32 games unbeaten at home it had to end at some stage so we need to start again so be it we can do it because WE ARE LIVERPOOL

a great second half if we can turn our second half into our first half well then we have a better chance of winning the league this season

We are short in midfield and defence. I think skrtel and Agger at the back is the way forward, and by the time Aqualini and Agger are ready it could be too late.

The muppets have gone mate, the games over. I just continually get annoyed with Babel when he plays and Voronin bless just doesn't cut the mustard. I'm not making scapegoats of them I am merely just commenting on the substitutes who we expect to turn the game!!:mad:

Bad night at the office. Fookin feel sick. Reminded me of Villa match back in 2001, beat 3-1 at home.

I just hope Rafa does not start fcking moaning about decisions. Did not deserve a result. The OG was turning point and Villa played it well from then on in. You know Friedal was going to be hard to beat. Once it went 3-1, the heads dropped, no inspiration.

Worst thing about that game and indeed the Spurs game is that its by and large Rafa's first choice. One thing is for sure Masherano and Lucas have not got the guile between in the middle to make the difference. The sooner Aqualini gets fit the better.

Its only the start of the season, however if things got badly at Bolton, it will be a long long international break.

Your picking me up wrong friend. I think we still have a chance, of course we do...it's just that as a club we have to get out of the (we can afford to lose x amount of games mentality)....we can't afford to lose any.
