Yeah the whole female Olympic team was injected with steroids and other stuff was given to them to "counteract" the effect of the steroids. There was a big scandal and a documentary done about it, some of them died really young because of it, and the rest had their lives ruined.

This is clearly a situation of the media blowing a story out of all proportion, pure and simple innuendo...we see this tripe everyday in the redtops and this story is nothing different...The situation here at worst is that she is a hermaphrodite, meaning that she was born with both male and female reproductive organs. The parents decide at birth which sex they want the child to be and surgery is performed...
Alternatively, it could be a genetic dissorder whereby too much testosterone is released...this has occurred in many female athletes and in sydney olympics 1 in 423 female suffered with this condition...
Either way, these "complex tests" the media speak of were banned in sydney as they are not conclusive due to the condition named above...
The sporting authorities should be condemned for how they have handled the situation...
A simple case of the media latching onto a story and demoralising a young girl at her greatest hour...
I stand to be corrected pending the outcome...

Yes indeed, shocking I know. I dont know if you remember a programme on SkyOne a few years back or not called There's Something About Miriam? Well thats Miriam, and the something about her was the crown jewels, and there was loads of lads competing for her love, and in the end she revealed she was a dude, and the "WINNER" of the show nearly died of heart failure, the clip is really funny, as all the other lads who were gutted they didn't win can be seen in the back round saying to each other yeah I knew i did't want to win etc.

Probably chromosomally male but phenotypically female. Such conditions as Androgen insenitivity syndrome or 5 alpha reductase would do this. The former are chromosomally male, but the receptors for Testosterone dont work at all. In fact they have really high levels of testosterone (higher than pheotypic men as the pitutary tries to kick start the system).
Alternatively she could have an adrenal problem (congenital adrenal hyperplasia).
Anyway I think it is a disgrace the way the media and the IAAC have treated this girl. She has been reared as a girl, she should be allowed compete. The extra androgens maybe conferring an advantage, but it is an advantage of nature, not pharmacological. It is to my mind no different to the Kenyas training at altitude and having a higher haematocrit, therefore conferring an advantage for long distance running.

E-mails show South African officials covered-up gender tests on Caster Semenya
(John Giles/PA)
Caster Semenya won gold in the women's 800m
Fred Bridgland in Johannesburg 18 Comments
Recommend? (21) South Africa’s athletics authority carried out gender tests on the runner Caster Semenya before she travelled to Berlin last month, establishing that she had internal testes but withholding the findings.
According to e-mail exchanges published yesterday, officials at Athletics South Africa (ASA) were aware that a Pretoria clinic had found that Semenya had internal testes and produced abnormal amounts of testosterone for a woman. The matter was raised by Harold Adams, the ASA’s chief medical officer and team doctor, the Mail & Guardian newspaper reported.
Dr Adams suggested that the ASA carry out tests on Semenya, 18, because of her deep voice, muscular body and facial hair in case her gender became a subject of controversy at the world championships. She went on to win gold in the 800 metres.
One advised Dr Adams to begin his own gender tests on Semenya on August 5, ten days before the world championships. It appears that Semenya underwent the tests shortly thereafter.
However, before he had received the clinical report from the Pretoria clinic Dr Adams appears to have suggested keeping the results confidential until the South African team were in Berlin, and only once there to consider what to do about “these issues if they come up”.
One e-mail from Dr Adams to Leonard Chuene, the ASA president, and Molatelo Malehopo, its general manager, says: “Thinking about the current confidential matter I would suggest we make the following decisions. 1. We get a gynae opinion and take it to Berlin. 2. We do nothing and I will handle these issues if they come up in Berlin.”
Once the gender report was completed it triggered a further flurry of worried e-mails between top ASA officials.
When the Australian journalist Mike Hurst leaked a report by the IAAF, the world governing body for athletics, that Semenya was a hermaphrodite South African officials angrily denounced it and denied it had carried out its own tests.
The ASA also accused Hurst and other journalists of racism and insensitivity towards “our little girl”. Makhenkesi Stofile, the South African Sports Minister, lost his temper at a press conference and threatened to start a “third world war” if Semenya was banned from international competition by the IAAF because of her gender.
Wilfred Daniels, the former ASA chief coach, who resigned last week in protest at ASA’s handling of the Semenya saga, said that the ASA had duped Semenya into thinking the gender test carried out on her were routine drugs test.
He said that the runner was left “distressed and humiliated” by the examination during which her genitalia were photographed.
The Mail & Guardian said: “The betrayal of Caster Semenya at the hands of those who should have protected her must rank among the cruellest acts ever to dominate international attention for the wrong reasons.”
Fcukwit. How do these people get to be the in charge of anything?

Athlete Caster Semenya free to compete
Semenya has been out of action since winning in Berlin
South African athlete Caster Semenya has been given the all-clear to return to competition by the International Amateur Athletics Federation.
The world 800m champion has been out of the sport for 11 months after undergoing gender tests.
"The IAAF accepts the conclusion of a panel of medical experts that she can compete with immediate effect," read a statement from the athletics body.
"Please note that the medical details of the case remain confidential."
