Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Staunton has just resigned from his post. The FAI received the letter from Staunton first thing this morning, in the statement Staunton said that, "I have always held the respect of the Irish fans from my playing days with Ireland. But last nights reaction was the final straw. I feel bitterly disappointed for the fans and I feel let down by the players for their performance against Cyprus last night.". Staunton's tenure as Ireland manager has been riddled with poor results and poor performances and last night's 1-1 draw had Irish fans booing throughout the night....... Carlsberg don't do news bulletins but if they did they'd probably be the best in the world! Sorry!!!
he is a dead man walking if used in footballing terms, as i said earlier in the staunton must go thread, we could end finishing 2nd bottom in the group come the 21st november when all games are completed. That says it all. 7 goals scored against the other nations in the group taking out San Marino explains a thing or 2 and take out those 2 wins we would be only on 10 pts
Damn you Yoko. read the start, didnt scroll down. Just rang my cousin in a state of euphoria..... Mind you now I want a Carlsberg.
I would have more respect for him if he had have done that, at least Kevin Keegan had the honesty and class to step down from the England job when he realised he was out of his depth.
Well I think he has lost his chance now...He should have gone like a man...he had no problem in standing up and speaking out following the Roy keane saga, in comparison to acting like a lost pup now...
He gave a huge hint that Staunton will be leaving after the next board meeting...he also spoke in debt about how he was not the only one to appoint Stan...he was basically tring to distance himself from the appointment...wayne o' donoghue was good with the interview...
Well his position should be top of the agenda along with Delaney's job as Chief Exec. as well. Who mind me asking is the President of the FAI at this moment??
Delaney said some bull about it not being his decision to choose Steve Staunton as manager (yeah right!!!!) but some 3-man panel. He also banged on a bit of how great the FAI are doing at grassroot levels, new stadium etc (total red herring). Sounds like they will be meeting over the next number of weeks to decide Staunton's future. He never said anything about "keeping him to the end of the contract" or "supporting him" as he has done in the past. Hopefully Staunton will be going and that w*nker Delaney won't be too far behind. Oh what is the bet that in a couple of weeks, the FAI will make an announcement backing Staunton through the World Cup qulifiers etc. The way the FAI think, it wouldn't surprise me. Then on the other hand they might get someone else with zero experience, I know my Dad is looking for a new job; he is just as qualified as Staunton was 2 years ago, maybe they will give it to him.
Classic one Nunu, seen a similar one years ago when a Bishop Eamon Walshe was announced as Bishop Eamon Casey, much to the red faces of all in attendance.
