Yossi played really well when he came on so hopefully him instead of ryan babel

I suppose it's catch 22 for Rafa. When Benayoun starts he simply doesn't perform to a level he does when used as an impact sub? Babel surely has shown us just what he has and that is not good enough. However I think Benayoun is a better option. I rather see someone else alongside Masch, maybe Spearing?

Benny was the player of the season in the second part of the season last season.I really dont no why he didnt play today. He came on, found the killer pass, created opportunties for the team, and also found space. So please Rafa start him on Wed, as he are going to need some one like him to unlock the stoke defence as i can see it being 10 behind the ball for stoke..

The only change we can make is yossi for babel. Looking at our bench yesterday it looked weaker than spurs!!

fitzpatrickgary
17-08-2009, 08:41 AM
id be tempted to play yossi behind torres and bring stevie back to midfield but then the problem is who to drop
lucas is the natural option but i feel he played well yesterday but babel didnt carry on his pre season form so maybe lucas can play wide instead of him

Is there really any need to for Both Lucas and Masherano in holding role against Stoke?

Its going to happen though. I reckon Marty will do well to be in there. They reckoned his jaw was knocked out of place.

Anyone know if its on in town? The streams will be mental as its not on tv. Will be heading somewhere to watch it.

Sky are showing Champs League qualifiers this season.

I had to laugh though, to hear Dick Keys you would think it was the first ever series of the qualifiers.

Might head to the Nest for it, Cheers Gerry.

Torres, Kuyt

really like the look of that front 6 ...would love to see kuyt up to with torres and i think between yossi and stevie we would break down the stoke defence..

McLovin
17-08-2009, 10:14 AM
Like the look of that front six myself, except i'd play masch against stoke as it may be to physical for lucas. Stoke are just gonna man mark torres if he's up front by himself but if kuyt was up there with him there may be more space to exploit. Plus i'd like to see stevie play more central on wednesday night.

My best guess would be no, he looked in pretty bad shape. You could see him flinch when the medic was testing certain pressure points. They said his jaw was offline. Doesn't sound too good to me :(

17-08-2009, 11:56 AM
i think two strikers up and gerrard to midfield isthe way to go here - it mite be breaking up the torres/gerrard axis but gerrard spent a lot of time yesterday back in midfield anyway esp in the 2nd hallf to try and get us going - whether that was instinct, a request form rafa or that he didnt trust either of the two midfielders to do it i dont know but at the moment, with aqualini out, he's by a zillion miles our best passer and creator so maybe 4-4-2 at home against stoke is the way to go - coz if torres is up front on his own they'll put two bullocks on him to kick him to death...as u do. my fervent hope is that rafa's constant talking up of aquaman proves prophetic cos we need something in there thats for sure

That sucks mate. Whoever registered them should make sure they get compensated by the Post-Office, once they were registered then the Postie will have to cough up.

Meantime, best of luck with getting some spares. On the off-chance that I hear anything I'll let you know.

I hate when stuff like that happens its awful, also not sure if you'll be able to, but make sure you get compensated for the whole cost of the trip, because its not just the lost tickets, its your travel and accommodation that you are out of pocket for aswel.

Yossi is a very skillful player and offers a lot. He played superbly in the second half of the season but I truely believe he is an impact sub and doesn't perform for 90mins. That aside I would be happy for him to start and hopefully he'll have that creative edge we are missing?

agreeded.i mentioned it on many occassions last season about yossi playing that role.finally somebody agrees with me.we can't afford to play 2 holding midfielders in these type of games.go 4-4-2 from the start and have a right go.

This is going to be a massive test for Ayala. Expect Stoke to bombard him with high balls as well as the usual quota of throwins from Delap. Don't really know that much about him or what to expect. But with a name like Ayala, he'll have to know a thing or two about defending!

Hoping Nando gets off the mark tonight and starts a flood of goals.

i think we'll see lucas play way further up the pitch tonight. he is quite good going forward when he's allowed.
Thats true. He played attacking mid field for Gremio.. Come On Lucas!!! Put your critics to shame son

im not so sure of it being like last season, stoke will have a bit more confidence from regaining premiership status and a win on their opening game, think we'll get a more open game than last year.well hoping anyway.

To throw an 18 year old into a game having to face delap's long throws, he's doing well. Ovbiously the question will be now why pay money for another centre back when we have some good young defenders...

Strange 1st half, great start with Nando's goal then seemed to forget how to play for about half an hour, fantastic overhead by Johnson. It's not over with their abilty to cause havoc with their set-pieces, playing into their own crowd of in-bred chimps. Stevie and Yossi need to up their involvement a bit. Dirk poor again. Scum losing so happy days so far

Can't be accused of not playing attractive attacking football the second half! Read a lot of sh*te about Rafas transfers recently out of the interweb, looks like Johnson with an assist and a goal in two games isn't that bad aye!

When he bought Dossena and Degan last year I think this is what he was looking for out of Insua and Johnson. Taking some chances at back but .. what a piece of skill by Gerrard. Get in there Kuyt :)
