Is sport in Ireland in the doldrums? Apart from Harrington this year not many Irish teams or people have won anything of note to crow about. I know the Rugby team won the Triple Crown but the performances in the World Cup tainted that. Now then with the soccer team just utter rubbish whats next for Sport in our country non GAA??

Sport this year in Ireland for me has been nothing short of shambolic(Well the ones I watch).

- The Football team was possibly worst I can remember, even the wins against Wales and Solvakia were lucky
- First of all the Rugby team will never get as good a chance at a Grand Slam and the most over hyped sports people ever in Ireland go and disgrace themselves at the World Cup
- The All Ireland Series in both Football and Hurling was way too one sided and I didn't have any interest in either Final
- Kieran Fallon, possibly the best jockey ever to come out of Ireland in Court for race fixing
- Boxing is in the doldrums worldwide and the biggest hope we have had in 10years is decked within 30 seconds

Fair enough Harrington won the Open - Crap Sport IMO

Dunne was the product of media hype and people buying into that. Not many who are involved with boxing or who follow it closely expected Dunne to compete at a high level.

Duddy and Lee have been getting attention in the States, and Andy Lee will be topping the bill in March in Detroit, and coming back to fight in Limerick again in May, as well as fighting at the end of this month and in April.

As for world boxing being in the doldrums? Hardly, the lighter divisions have a lot of top notch talent in them, from light welterweight up to Supermiddleweight. One of the potential early contenders for fight of the year 2008 takes place this weekend in Vegas, when Jermaine Taylor has his rematch with Kelly Pavlik.

I posted this 3 months ago and I would agree boxing is on the up. I have watched more fights (Mayweather, Khan, Duddy and Lee) in the last three months than in the previous 5 years. Now with Calzaghe and Hopkins on the horizon, I will be looking forward to that too.

Plus there is some Irish guy going well in the WWE :D:D:D
