Just a quick question thats been bothering me lately lads. Before arbeloa was sold there was talk of an 8 million transfer to madrid but it seems as if he was sold for a miserable 3.5 million.Does anybody know the reason for this or give any reasonable explanation of why such a good right full could be flogged for so little!!
He was in the final year of his contract and could have agreed a pre-contract agreement with another club in January.
Bit disappointed meself. Always felt he was underrated. A solid right back. Thought he was well suited to the prermiership.
good solid full-back alright but I agree with selling him now as we have 3/4 possible right-fulls(Carra,Johnson,Degan,Darby or Kelly).Better to get some money now than nothing next year.
The £3.5m was a good deal. He was a decent but not great full back in the final year of his contract and he wanted to return to Spain. 3.5 only seems miserable because some people were spouting 8m but they most likely just plucked that figures from thin air because it was never gonna happen.
Plus he wanted to leave at the end of the season before and return to Spain and Rafa asked him for one more season, he agreed and he gave one more season and Rafa stood by his word
Godo servant to the club for a few seasons but gave little going forward and was too easily turned at times by nippy forwards. Good luck to him but glad we've got Johnson in to give us extra edge.
I didnt really rate arbeloa ! i think we got a good price for him I dont Carragher misses him too much 8 million not even Man city would pay that
Arbeloa was a brutal player. Thank god we got 3.5 million for him. Its somethin init?! He only would have went on a free at the end of his contract. After we wouldn't have resigned him of course
He is a Spanish International and is playing right back for Real Madrid. Hardly makes him a brutal player. At times during his Anfield career he was the best defender on show numerous times. I dont think he had enough to help us go that one step further and Johnson is better, however to say he is brutal is not realistic in my opinion.
Brutal - come off it - limited in some aspects yes but a damn good defende for the price we paid for him he was one of the most consistent players to have come through the door at Anfield in the last 20 years. Remember seeing him Live at the Nou Camp as a left back against Messi in the second half espeically at the side of the Nou Camp I was on. I thought we had a gem and IMO he was one.
Consistent!? Im sorry mate but I just didnt see it with him. As for being a Spanish international, I don't really see him starting in a full strength Spanish team. I cant comment on whether he's playing or not in Real Madrids starting lineup, as I don't know. All I can comment on is that for me, Arbeloa's departure was due and we should have thrown Dossena in with him for that 3.5 million as well
Yeah, he was so brutal. Sure Messi only stayed in his pocket all night in the Nou Camp cause it was comfy. And he only took the right back spot off of Finnan, cause Steve felt sorry for him. And Rafa only picked him constantly for two years cause he liked his haircut. Those solid, dependable, sound defenders, who can play in any position across the back, and only cost us £2.5 million, are all brutal.
+1, he's gone. No point in argueing about him now. We have Glen Johnson now who is the best right back in the league and thats all that matters. We may as well open a Robbie Keane thread I request that this thread be closed
Pointless to bump this. Were you just looking for something to moan about? And to say he was a "brutal player", I think that's given most people the signal of how pointless it would be to try have a conversation with you.
