The sad thing is what they'll probably replace him with will be of similar quality/experience.

just watched lfc tv tonight showing staunton in a reds shirt and i forgot i used to like him as a player

At least tonight he took O' Brien off - had a howler of a game - but surely Miller should be getting the nod in the middle of the pitch ahead of O' Brien

Was at the game. What a joke. If he doesn't go now we can say goodbye to the next world cup as well. Delaney should go too. Heard lads were ejected tonight for having a "Delaney out" banner. If thats true its a disgrace. There definitely was some trouble on the Cusak stand with loads of police and stewards headin over that direction

    No he does not!
Obviously not his fault he was given the job, we can blame his buddy Delaney for that. But, he has done himself no favours with some of his tactical decisions and team selections. If he had any kop on he would walk away and do us all a favour. He might get more respect from people in the long term if he did.

Staunton was a super player and I'll always respect him for that. It's not his fault that he was given the job but it was a ridiculous decision. He is out of his dept and we need a new manager for the next campaign

I felt sorry for Stan. A man floundering out of his depth. Please god the FAI will be sensible for the first time in living memory and give him severence.

I'm almost convinced we don't want to qualify for Championships in order to save money

Boos and Jeers from Irish fans, disgrace!!!

I was at the game myself and it was an awful display. Scraping a draw at home to Cyprus - but one thing I'll say is that it was a complete disgrace how the Irish fans booed at the Irish players. Every one of them ran for the whole time they were on the pitch, they're out there playing for their country and I can guarantee that they're as gutted as we all are at how things are going. Why would you even consider going to a game if you're gonna do nothing but abuse our own players.

I saw (so called) fans singing all of the Irish songs and turn around and boo their own players less than 20 secs later. I even saw a bloke teachin his kid to boo at our players - the kid was no more than 8 years old. Thats no education in footie for a young lad going to see his idols. We all know the FAI needs a complete revamp, and Delaney should definitely go... but who is gonna replace Stan? Who is out there to replace him? The FAI dont have the cash or the personnel to get a half decent name in.

Look on the bright side, there is some brilliant talent coming through in the team and for the 1st time in a very long time, most players are born in Ireland - no granny rule. Whatever happens, these players are gaining valuable international experience. I know it will come right, but all I wanna say is get behind the players. Get rid of the negative vibes. Its not the Irish way. I always looked down at and dispised other countries for the sideline abuse, and I'll tell you all that tonight was a real eye opener. We're no different from the rest.

P.S. Course I'm not saying its all fans, I just couldnt believe how many took part in it all.

trust me... players were being bood and jeered at every bit as much as Staunton and Delaney were. i was gutted it was happenin. booed off at half time. robbie keane, hunt (at times), reid (at times) were all jeered at.

i almost left at half time cos I was so annoyed by it, makes me wonder if some of the hypocrits have any sense or brains at all.

If you paid the money that are been touted for the game and other games in the qualifiers and seen all the crap that we seen on telly you have a right as punter to boo. Look at the results been honest and the games in the qualifiers we played crap football been honest you get more entertainment watch paint dry. Booing was deserved in my opinion utter s***e thats what we have dragged down too.

Poor tactics, selections in the first XI and squad brutal, players not properly conditioned for the games. We should have been beaten tonight. Cyprus could and should have had 4 goals with the chances they missed. Finnan's goal at the end masked over a embrassing game and qualifying campaign which has made us the laughing stock.

The Genesis Report from the 2002 World Cup has done nothing to improve the FAI. An amateur organisation bunch of muppets, hate to say but at times the GAA are more a professional organisation than the FAI. The players there are good enough to if properly managed and trained by experienced and world class footballing people. We need someone like Guus Hiddink or of that ilk as manager. Apart from Roy Keane which won't happen is there an Irishman capable of managing the team with world class experience. Martin O' Neill is the only one i can think of and if anyone says David O'Leary i would just laugh at the notion.

At this stage we're in a worse position than ever. The way its going Ireland will not be qualifying for any major event for the foreseeable future if this joke of losers are in charge. Time for sweeping change all over the FAI. We need someone of a technical director to start at the grass roots and help build something along with maintaining the current side. The way the FAI look at it the World Cup is more financial viable than the Euro's. We want to see our country in both events not just once every 4 years.

The table doesn't lie, Ireland could conceivably finish 2nd bottom of the group come the end of this qualifying stage which would be the worst campaign in Irish football history:
    European Football Championship Group D
    Team P W D L F/A Pts
    1 Germany 10 7 2 1 31 / 7 23
    2 Czech Republic 10 7 2 1 22 / 4 23
    3 Rep of Ire 11 4 4 3 15 / 12 16
    4 Cyprus 10 4 2 4 17 / 18 14
    5 Slovakia 10 4 1 5 27 / 20 13
    6 Wales 10 4 1 5 16 / 17 13
    7 San Marino 11 0 0 11 2 / 52 0

Some disgusting behaviour at the game last night, how people can boo players for making a mistake is beyond me, and yes it was happening! eg andy reid hit a slightly misplaced pass and hundreds of muppets booed him as happened with hunt and others!

i know people felt the need to boo at the end for staunton which i knew was going to happen but dont condone but the treatment the players got for small mistakes was disgusting and something i have never seen before !

stan isn't up to it but either are the players, we only have about 4 players from a fully fit squad who could play in a very good international team, stan might go but we will still have the same below average players, managing this team at the moment is a poisioned chalice for whoever takes over
