Have a problem that occurred out of the blue where my pc on start up didn't , instead i got a black screen & the following message :-

"We appologise for the inconvenience, but Windows didn't start successfully.
A Hardware or Software change might have caused this

If a previous startup attempt was interupted, due to power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed, or if your not sure what caused the problem, chose 'Start Windows as Normal'.

    STARTUP REPAIR (recommended)
    START NORMALLY

Use up & down keys to highlight your choice.

Any of the options I select it just ends up swithing off & trying to reboot but with same message

    Any help would be appreciated

Nope, Dell just has a bad reputation. So you should be ok.

if you just use a dell for the net and noting else its ok but for upgrading its bottom of the pc pile along with compac and vista is already being replaced by windows7 says it all really, its best if you can build your own pc for your requirements and save yourself a fortune and also have a better pc.
ive built every pc ive every had and stuck with xp pro its not as bloathed as vista.;)

    pc startup

Yeah got it sorted, a fella in the IT dept in the job worked his magic on it, said it was prob due to an update on windows or summit! Was using AVG antivirus but recommended Avast so put that on as well.Had to clear my hard drive and then put everything back on again. Messy but sorted now thank fook.

    Cheers

Good ould backup and re-install - In all fairness, if you install cheap software on your PC/Notebook you will get the same deal eventually. What I mean is crap CD's from the Sunday papers etc.

Avast is a good free AV. Its possble a windows update screwed with it, but Id say you just needs a re-install to clear her up! Like getting an NCT ;o)

with dell, you get what you pay for.
    Its cheap and cheerful.

Too be honest dell computers are fine, its vista that is crap. Win7 is out in October and it is class, im running a demo of it at the moment, alot faster than vista, boots up faster uses less memory and all that.

does that mean your now using both avg and avast.as far as i know you should only use 1 as they will cancell each other out sort of thing.
