im hoping someone can clear something up for me on this one.my understanding is the government pay X amount everytime someone gets a medical card perscription/goes over the limit on the DPS etc etc and they are cutting this money to the chemists.so why the hell are the chemists not opening to serve private customers??? i was an hour chasing round today to find a chemist to get the perscription i had for one of the twins.it just strikes me as thick that they are basically doing themselves out of trade,in medicine and other items, just because the government are cutting the money they give them
pubically: does not pay them to be open full hours privatly: I would imagine to create more chaos. That being said I think they are right in leaving contracts
It’s probably not viable for the them to open as the government money accounts up to 80% of some pharmacies business.
I have some sympathy for the pharmacists but something had to give. My mate gets tablets costing €900.00 per month. He pays €100.00 per month so if its 500 or 900 it makes no odds to him. The system was wide open to be abused. I'd say a lot of them will rejoin it privately without admitting to defeat publicly.
Anybody know when this strike is over? Or what pharmacy's are still open as was in boots today and they where refusing ppl. Preferably northside
boots is open once you pay for your scripts as far as i know, unless they are running out of stock.there was 35 chemists in the high court today and the judge found they have to honour the contract they are in,what this means overall im not sure
The pharmacists are individual contractors to the HSE. Many gave due notice that they were withdrawing from their contracts and did so. The highcourt action is referring to a small number who did not give due notice and therefore are in breech of contract. Boots still are dispensing medical card Rx but are completly overwhelmed and therfore are being forced to turn many away.
