    Old-boy's plea to Tevez
    Thu, Jun 28 2007 10:44

Former midfielder Javier Mascherano has urged West Ham striker Carlos Tevez to quit the club and link up with him at Liverpool.
The Argentinian international pair both joined the Hammers in a controversial move from Brazilian outfit Corinthians last summer, before Mascherano quit to join the Reds in the January transfer window. And, with Tevez now being linked with a multi-million move away from Upton Park this summer, his former team-mate wants him to snub the likes of Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Arsenal and Manchester United, to join him at Anfield.
West Ham are reportedly set to offer Tevez, who sealed their Premiership status with the winning goal at Manchester United on the final day of the season, up to £115,000 a week to stay, but Mascherano will attempt to sway him to Merseyside while they play for Argentina at the Copa America.

He told the Daily Star: "It would be nice to play with Carlos again.

"Right now we are together in the Copa America and it's great.

"We'll see what is going to happen before the start of next season."

However Mascherano revealed that the ultimate decision rests with boss Rafa Benitez, who seems more interested in signing Atletico Madrid's Fernando Torres at this moment in time.

He added: "Carlos is a great player and he could be very useful to Liverpool in my opinion.

"But the truth is that I would never dare to ask Rafa Benitez or any other coach to bring a player to a club.

"If he asked me, I would tell him my opinion, but that's the only context in which I would tell him what I think."

Is this a carefully constructed message to Torres that we may look elsewhere....

Although if we signed Torres and Tevez.....

I'd love to see tevez in a pool shirt. I think hes the most complete striker we can get who isn't at a big club already.

I like alot of attributes Torres has but its always a gamble as to weather he can be our most prolific goal scorer which is an obvious problem we have had since rafa has taken over.

I generally try to stay away from the transfer speculation threads but I have always thought that the Mascherano link might be an influence on Tevez.

I hope so.........He would be my no.1 choice forward but would imagine we will be priced out of signing him seen as hes linked with a different club every day

I've been thinking about this for a while- the whole Tevez or Torres & previously or Eto'o affair. I think based purely on the fact he has a season under his belt I'd take Tevez 1st. He's familiar with the league etc. But hey just as long as we get one of them and they prove a great succuess I'll be happy:cool:

It would be fantastic if we could land Tevez, he's just what we need.

Unfortunately, it seems he has he heart set on Inter Milan.

My take would be , Torres first as the classic Centre Forward (I know theres a few who will disagree with me on this), and Terez following as a bonus, and some bonus that would be.
