Not long since Mr Ferguson had a go at Rafa for calling the bluehite a small club then he trots out these lines! Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says Manchester City "are a small club with a small mentality". The Scot is unimpressed by City signing Carlos Tevez when the Argentine left Old Trafford at the end of last season. A city-centre billboard appeared soon after, saying "Carlos Tevez, welcome to Manchester" under a sky-blue graphic. "It's City isn't it? They're a small club with a small mentality. All they can talk about is Manchester United; they can't get away from it," he said. "They think taking Carlos Tevez away from Manchester United is a triumph. It is poor stuff." Manchester City have spent heavily in recent weeks, with Emmanuel Adebayor signing from Arsenal for about £25m, midfielder Barry coming from Aston Villa for £12m, Paraguayan frontman Santa Cruz costing £18m from Blackburn, and Tevez arriving for £25m. The billboard poster went up in Manchester after Tevez signed for City Ferguson, who was speaking on the Premier League champions' pre-season tour in China, claimed that Adebayor had attempted to sign for Manchester United before committing to City. "When someone offers you that kind of money, it is a big attraction," said Ferguson. "That is the reason they have gone there. "At the last minute, from what I can gather, either Emmanuel Adebayor or his agent phoned us after they had agreed a deal with City and then did the same with Chelsea. He'll probaly think it ok for him to call a club small and not for anyone else to say it.Just show what short memory the pr*ck has.I hope mark hughes has something to say about this and that will really fcuk him up as someone else playing mind games with him in pre season
It's all good news for us - when Ferguson gets distracted like this United usually suffer on the pitch. Remember the Rock of Gibraltar rumpus when Fergie was too busy scoring points off Magnier and McManus in the media to concentrate on the team! Hopefully more of the same this season - Tevez has really gotten under his skin.....
I really hate united. He is really afraid that Tevez will do well for them this season. City are probably not a "fancy" club and they are relying on all that money to attract "big"players, I hope they get second in the league behind us. That will really choke ferguson.
Once Fergie starts slagging off other teams, it means he sees them as a threat. He is chums now with Wenger, because he knows they have no chance of winning the league. Its the same now with city, he knows sooner or later they will be a force, so is starting the mind games early. You never really saw him take on Evans or Houllier verbally, I think he knew he had them at arms length when it came to league. In rafa's first few seasons, united had the upper hand in all games and Fergie never really bothered with Rafa. Once we beat them last season, he started to change his attitude. I know they won the league last season, however he knows Rafa team played them off the park twice and that Rafa is building his team every year. I think this season, its going to be even more volatile between Rafa and Fergie, with city thrown into the mix, its going to be interesting.
