    Trio bid £60m for nando

LIVERPOOL boss Rafa Benitez has revealed that his club have turned down three huge offers of around £60million for star striker Fernando Torres, from Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

Benitez, who is also trying to fend off interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona for Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano, insists that Torres is not for sale at any price.

He admitted: “This summer we have said no to some very, very big offers.

“We always wanted to keep Torres and people knew he wanted to stay, but that doesn’t stop them trying.â€

Sunday Express Sport exclusively broke the story in June that Manchester United were ready with an unlikely move for Torres.

Now we can reveal that there have been approaches from Chelsea and Manchester City as well.

In rebuffing the massive offers for Torres, who joined Liverpool from Atletico Madrid for £20m two years ago, Benitez hopes to send out the message that last season’s Premier League runners up mean business again this season.

The Spaniard added: “Football has changed. There is big money around but for us, it is vital to maintain the spine of the team.â€

Who the fcuk do these clubs think they are trying to take away our best players I'm sick of it !!!!

Hang on a sec though - all Rafa seems to have said is that there were "very big offers". There's nothing there to say any of those clubs put in an offer? Basically the papers making up more b*llox. Christ I hate them.

    Rafa snubs Torres bids

RAFA BENITEZ SNUBS £65M REAL MADRID BID FOR FERNANDO TORRES
    Rafa snubs Torres bids
    Steve Bates
Rafa Benitez put a stop to Real Madrid's incredible spending spree - by rejecting a massive £65million bid for Anfield idol Fernando Torres.

Madrid swooped for Torres AFTER sealing deals for £80m Cristiano Ronaldo and £56m Kaka. It was an astonishing move from the Spaniards, given that Torres made his name at their bitter rivals Atletico Madrid and is as important to Liverpool as skipper Steven Gerrard.

But Bernabeu president Florentino Perez reckoned the cash-strapped Merseysiders would be vulnerable to a big-money raid and agreed the offer for Spain's No.1 striker.

And he was prepared to win a bidding war with Chelsea and Manchester City, who also sniffed around Torres.

Liverpool boss Benitez, who is trying to keep Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano from Spanish clutches, said last night there was never a chance of accepting Madrid's millions.

Benitez said: "We always knew when a bid came we'd say no because the main thing was the player wanted to stay.

"People know the player wanted to stay here but it did not stop them trying. Football has changed and there is big, big money around - but we still have the same idea to keep the spine of the team and work hard for next season.

"We wanted to send a message that we are strong and want to improve. We don't want to lose any of our big players."

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is also believed to have put Torres at the top of his wish-list. But even though Roman Abramovich would have bankrolled the deal, Torres would not have moved to another Premier League club.

That also scuppered City's plans after they had lined up a third move for Torres following initial enquiries a year ago and further interest in January.

Yeah, sorry, what I meant was there's no mention by Rafa that there were three clubs involved, let alone that those be Man City, Chelsea & ManUre (coincidentally the three teams with arguably the most money in England). They heard "clubs made offers for Torres" and then made up the clubs involved etc.

I reckon they just presumed it was those 3 clubs. Id say Chelsea and City went in for him but I reckon mr Ferguson wouldn't even bother because he already knows what the answer

I personally think that Torres and Gerrard would never leave unless the club wanted them too. Torres has said that there are more important things than money and he loves the fans as much as we love him. You can not put a price on that.
He really is a Liverpool type of player.:):)

I actually hope the story is true. It just shows the panic setting in from Manure and Chelsea in particular. I think they know that if we can keep him fit this season there will be no stopping us. A bid of 60m in an insult for a player like Torres in the current climate. If City bid 100m for Kaka last year then how in the name of Fowler is Torres worth 60m  Enjoyable stuff TBH.
