Great news i think.. As mentioned above id love to see darby given his chance...Think we could do with a few local chaps in the squad if they are good enough.
Would give Spearing a go instead of Lucas in some games. Maybe a bold statement but heres why (think he`s better going foward, got a good range of passing & not to shabby in the tackle) Understand that Lucas is more experienced but when him & Masch played together our midfield lacked imagination going foward. Agree that they were great at breaking up the play in some games where it was needed but if we don`t have alonso in at least 1 of the CM roles we struggle at times. Not saying Spearing is as good as Alonso just that they can be both attack minded were as lucas + Masch are`nt think you need a mix of both types of players IMO.
Glad to have them both on board for next season. Ive been especially impressed with Spearing when he's been given the chance to play, a good player with a bright future.
Ye, the cameo that Spearing gave against Real Madrid showed he is one for the future, the kop chanted his name that night, wont be the last time they chant it, bright future ahead.
Spearing looked very impressive in the few cameo's he made last season. Would it not be a good idea to blood these 2 players tho by loanin them out to clubs such as hull, sunderland, bolton, wolves or whoever to get them some 1st team experience in the PL to see if they are up to it. Like we did with guthrie, and otsemebor who both went on loan to bolton. Cuz in fairness although they both hav a lot of potential its very unlikely they wil any noteworthy gametime with us this season.
I don't think Spearing is going to make it as a First team player for us. I do think he would be a good player for a mid table prem side, but can't see him making it with us. I would love him to do it as he is a local lad who is with the club for years but he is almost 21 and I think most top player would be making a bigger shout for the match day squid. I know we need to keep a few players from your academy for Europe, so maybe thats why he was giving a new deal. Have not seeing enough of Darby to make my mind up on him yet. Right back was a bit of a problem for us last season with a bit of filling in the gaps going on but after a big fee for Johnson and if Degen ever gets fit and Arbeloa stays at the club he might never get a game. But I can't see Arbeloa staying or Degen ever being fit for more then one game at a time. So I guess that could make him number 2 choice. It is great to have a big squid top players. But not so good to have a big squid of player you never are going to use.
im not slating your opinion but were pretty much the jay spearing supporters club on here i think.i dont see why he wont make it hes fast strong despite his size brave and a decent passer
Delighted the 2 lads are staying. To me it looks like Alonso is on his way, we're not going to buy any player of his class with our budget, so keeping Jay is very prudent. He has the possability of making the grade. Rafa has been extremely slow and off handish about giving some of our prospects a chance so far, but maybe with the two lads being promoted up he is realising our future strength has to come from whithin the ranks. The king should see to that somewhat more sensibly than Rafa's 'bull in a china shop' approach to our academy.
