Lads, what is the story with this fella... he was bought as a big prospect, but only seen him play once - in the carling cup against spurs which was a disaster. is he any use at all, or whats the craic ?
He has more fitness problems than me! Can't see him ever making it with us, might be useful enough, but unfortunately that's not worth a damn if you're always injured.
spend pretty much the whole of last season injured and played only a couple of games so you cant really judge him or say he is going to make it at our club or not
Don't think he was ever bought as a big prospect. We picked him up on a free transfer from one of the German teams. I'd say he was being brought in as cover and the fact he was free helped. I remember seeing him making his debut in a pre-season friendly, he actually looked ok for the first 10-15 mins. Was very keen to get forward until one of the opposition midfielders shoulder charged him in the mush and he went off injured as far as I remember!
Made of Glass. I was worried by his injury record before he signed and also he was the Swiss Rolls third choice full back at Euro 2008. That says a lot unfortunately.
Started 60 games in 3 years due to injury and we gave him a 4 year contract, a walking injurie who got a £2m signing on fee and is on £38k a week, hes 25 hardly a prospect and whoever recommended him should be tarred and feathered.
Poor signin, cant play 5 minutes without hurting himself, im sure he did his ankle in last year tripping over a blade of grass!!!!!
on this wikipedia page, i suppose that says it all about the lad Degen made his Liverpool debut on 12 July 2008 as a half-time substitute in a friendly against Tranmere Rovers which they won 1–0.[10] Degen made his competitive Liverpool debut in the third round of the Football League Cup in the 2–1 home win against Crewe Alexandra, during which he broke two of his ribs and punctured his lung in a collision with team-mate Sami Hyypiä and was out for two months.,[11][12] On Wednesday 12 November 2008 he made his first-team comeback in the 4-2 Carling Cup defeat at Spurs, only to suffer a broken metarsal. Degen was quoted after the game. "This is the worst thing that has ever happened to me," "I simply burst into tears in the dressing-room. Tottenham's Gareth Bale made a bad challenge on me, and I did not even get a penalty. "But the bone in my foot is torn apart, and I will be out another four to six weeks. It is the saddest event of my life - I keep asking myself if I did something wrong in a past life."[13] In January 2009 Degen suffered another metarsal injury after scoring in a 2-2 draw with Manchester United reserves. On 9 May 2009, he returned to the Liverpool first team as an unused substitute in Liverpool's 3-0 victory against West Ham at Upton Park.
you`ve got to feel sorry for the lad it not like its been the same injury all the time bit like Duff. In fairness 35k a week would make you feel better about your lot. I don`t think he`s a liverpool type of player anyway. I know its a bit of subject was on lfc.tv & they have a poll on who was our best right full back of all time. Phil Neal is number (1) at moment with Steve Finnan 2nd delight that Steve has got some recognition from the fans i think he was our best right back of Rafas rain but have to say i voted for Phil Neal.
i hate to admit it but i laughed reading that.seriously the guy must have broke a couple of hundred mirrors moving house to liverpool.id reserve judgement on him football wise as that team wed out against spurs in the league cup was a farce.
Degen seems to have come though the pre-season uninjured....could this be a sign that he may actually play a part this season, other that keeping the medical staff occupied???
Where are you getting the wage information from? Deggen on 38k and 2mil signing on fee. I can't see any club shelving out that much for this lad, especiallly looking at his previous playing career. And Masch only on 30k! I'd advise him myself to head off to Barca and get what he deserves.
Degen is this years anomaly. Last night what he lacked in skill he made up in endeavour. Whether he will ever be good enough for Liverpool remains to be seen.
