I got a great set of brand new Cleveland's off e-bay last year for €300.The same set in McGuirks were €600. They came from a crowd called IREGOLF. I think they were based in Cork cos i had them within a couple of days.

with the US sites, are ye paying VAT on that from the customs checks or are ye getting them at the cheap price advertised plus postage only ?

Con, they send them as a sample or gift that gets them by having to charge vat or import duty. Well that's what I was told when buying mine!
They are very cheap on most sites, but when they arrive they most come from china. My set are the Dogs Boll** and were alot cheaper than buying here

There is a golf shop at the Spawell driving range in Templeogue. The guy will tape up a few clubs for you and let you hit them on the range. Getting to hit a few balls with a club is important before you buy. He has a great selection of new and used gear.

Just be wary of knock offs from China.

A friend of my mine said he was told in future to put it down as a birthday gift if he wanted to avoid those costs. That was by the guy who delivered the stuff to him.

I'd know the real things when I see them, thats why I 'd only buy from a recommended seller on e-bay, and if you buy something thats not the real thing you have comeback where as with some of these other sites I'd say you would be left with stuff. There is a lot of knocks off going around alright but you can usually spot them if you know where to look.

just be very very carefull when your buying clubs these days, make sure the clubs (woods) have a serial number, you can see the number at the end of the shaft, theres so many fakes out there its not funny.....the 3 main brands you should be ware of are ping, callaway, taylormade.. just bought new clubs there last month, American golf are very helpfull, took alot of time with me and gave me a great deal.

Hi lads if you are going to spend €600 or so on a set of clubs, you should think about getting them custom fitted. Mate of mine did it in Palmerstown House think it only cost €50, said it was well worth it. They will analyse your swing and try out different club lenghts and shafts to find the one that best suits you. He was using graphites and when he was finished he was using steel shafts said it was best 50 he had spent on golf clubs as he now gets to walk down the fairway after driving.

Where in the States are you going?
I have bought clubs in Florida a couple of times, not full sets just individuals and had no problem getting them home. The shops will box them up for you.

Alot of the shops do it free now if your buying a new set so its well worth getting it done.

Going on m honey moon to Vegas, then Miami and then St Lucia:). Dont want to be lugging them around, so ideally Vegas or Miami and ship from there.
EDIT: BTW I will be looking to play as a guest in the last couple of outings and sign up next year. I am shite but eager.

Very nice!. I went to these guys in Florida and they were great to deal with.http://www.edwinwattsgolf.com/. They have a couple of shops in Miami. I'm sure if you bought the clubs in there they would ship them for you. I'd say you would be looking at around $50 dollars for shipping a full set.

I meant €50 dollars for the shipping, whatever you pay for the clubs is up to you.:)
I made a huge saving cos at the time I was getting an exchage rate of 1.5 where as now its less than 1.3 but the stuff over there is still far cheaper than what you would pay in AmericanGolf or McGuirks. Done a quick search there and a set of Ping G15's (4-pw) are $ 615 (€495) over there and € 760 here. If it cost you $50 to ship them home you would be still saving over €200.

If your looking for good quality gear but not going to spend mad money then your better off trying to get some decent second hand clubs. Some good putters on adverts.ie

anyone bought a set on-line recently that they can recommend? Being a leftie is really hampering my options.
Does anyone play the Callaway X22's by any chance, and how would you rate them?
Cheers
